Congratulations to Michele Whitehead! Michele was elected chair-elect of HealthLINE and will officially take office at the January 2015 HealthLINE meeting.

For the treasurer position, it was a tie between Peace Ossom Williamson and Jon Crossno. To break the tie, paper ballots will be distributed to full individual and institutional representatives at the Nov. 20th HealthLINE meeting at UT-Southwestern in Dallas before 9:30 am. If the institutional representative is not attending the meeting, please let me know beforehand who is the alternate representative. The election results should be announced at the end of the Nov. 20th business meeting. Should the paper ballots results in another tie, Peace and Jon will break the tie by drawing straws!

Hope to see everyone at the Nov. 20th meeting!  Should you have any questions, please let me know.

    Best regards,
    Lisa Huang
    Jean Hillyer
    Leah Hamrick

I have gone through my Kubler-Ross stages of grief after hearing of the upcoming demise of Google Reader, and I have finally reached acceptance. This has been made much easier thanks to the many other devoted Google Reader fans who are going through the same process, and the fact that there are quite a few powerful alternatives out there.

My choice, and the choice of over 3 million new users since Google's announcement, is Feedly. It is very easy to import your feeds- just log in using your Google Reader info, and voila, there they are! It also has apps for iPhone, iPad and Android devices. It offers many of the functions that Google Reader has including sharing, saving and tagging. They even have information for those of us new to Feedly. Very handy!

So, if you get your HealthLINE blog updates via Google Reader, remember to import the feed to a new service before Google pulls the plug on July 1st!

The International Council of Nurses (ICN) updates its code of ethics. The ICN, a federation of more than 130 national nursing associations, revised its code of ethics in 2012. The new code reflects the current professional emphases on positive work environments and the use of evidence-based practice. According to David Benton, chief executive officer of the ICN, the publication is “an essential tool” for nurses as they navigate challenges and face major ethical dilemmas.

The ICN Code of Ethics for Nurses can be downloaded for free (and in several languages) at www.icn.ch/about-icn/code-of-ethics-for-nurses .

I've finally found the time to read this article "Bitter Pill:  Why Medical Bills Are Killing Us."  (Thanks Elaine Cox!)  It's definitely worth reading and to be shared with others.
